Statement from Head Coach of Athletico, Peter Souvlis Regarding Recent Bans
Dear Athletico Fans and OCE Gaming Community,
This is an open letter to the community in regards to 2 of the Athletico Academy's players receiving a ban from Cybergamer.
One of the members of the Athletico Academy, ‘MethodNZ’, has received a Cybergamer BAN as he also had a VAC ban account attached to his credentials. This BAN will stand and be served in full.
A second member of the Athletico Academy, ‘Kozzy’, has received a Cybergame BAN for harboring the VAC banned player - due to the aforementioned banned account being on his steam friends list. This BAN has already been lifted by Cybergamer with details below.
First and foremost, in regards to the concealed VAC banned account -
There was no evidence that 'MethodNZ' was cheating during his time in the Athletico Academy on his current account.
This VAC ban was attributed to a smurf account that was no longer used by 'MethodNZ'. In saying that, every account holder is responsible for the activity on their accounts and, as a result, the BAN will not be challenged or appealed in any way by 'MethodNZ' or Athletico Esports on his behalf.
Athletico does NOT condone cheating on any level in any game title and we, as an organisation, believe in the support and rehabilitation of banned players back into the community. I have held this stance consistently, stretching back to my time as a player and have always maintained an open mind when considering the inclusion of ONE time offenders.
Following the allegations, MethodNZ has been indefinitely benched until his ban has been served in its entirety. During his ban he will continue, if he so chooses to be a part of the organisation, to work towards his ultimate goal of becoming a professional CS:GO player.
The most serious punishment for this offence is the VAC ban itself. Due to its very nature, the prohibition itself results in players losing valuable experience and competition time they would have otherwise attainted under normal circumstances. The seriousness of this punishment often has sevre and lasting effects on the players themselves, as is just for the offence commited.
As an organisation, we ALWAYS do our due diligence in regards to background checks on new players and concealed bans - however, notabley, it is not possible to discover every account, every time.
Secondly, in regards to the harbouring BAN given to Kozzy -
Due to having the VAC banned smurf account on his steam friends list - 'Kozzy' was temporarily banned. This was a precautionary measure while the investigation took place.
We, as an organisation, have worked with Cybergamer to appeal this harbour ban and a positive outcome has been reached, allowing 'Kozzy' to continue playing with the ban being lifted immediately.
Cybergamer have been both fair and reasonable throughout the appealing process and, after reviewing the circumstances, have decided that no malicious or intentional harbouring took place.
I want to thank Cybergamer for being a diligent league, committed to fair play and fair rules for everyone to compete. While these situations are never good for the player, the league or the organisation involved, it is vital that a firm stance on cheaters is continued and Athletico Esports fully supports Cybergamer's efforts on this front.
Finally, there is no excuse for cheating - You do the crime, you do the time.
While this is a setback for the current team - the Athletico Academy has an outstanding record of developing and facilitating young, talented players across the OCE region and will continue to do so, regardless of the actions of one player.
Please note had this been a VAC ban on a main account used in competitive play to represent Athletico Esports and/or used to win prize money, equipment or prevent other fair players from winning opportunities; or had our internal investigations uncovered anything to that effect - there would be a permanent and immediate removal of this player from the organisation.
Our investigation as an organisation internally has revealed that this was absolutely not the case. As such, 'MethodNZ' has been indefinitely benched for his actions until his ban has been served in FULL.
Each VAC ban has its own story and each has to be taken into consideration, because circumstances DO matter. This is not in regards to accepting the punishment, but more in regards to our choice to support 'MethodNZ' through his banned period.
'MethodNZ' has taken full responsibility for his actions, their consequences and has made no attempt to defend his actions in regards to the VAC ban. It is for this reason that the organisation stands firmly behind him to assist him in achieving his long term goal of playing professional CS:GO if he wishes to continue his journey in Esports in this game title - as we have always consistently done.
Thank you all in advance for working with Athletico and our continued efforts to be a leader in fair play in and out of the server in the Australian Esports community.
